Make Sure Your Child Wears a Seat Belt Safely Whenever He or She is in a Moving Vehicle.

If your child is under 50 lbs, he should be securely fastened in an infant or booster seat. If there is a shoulder strap, a locking clip supplied with the seat or the Buckle Buddy should be used to synch the seat down tightly.
If your child is over 50 lbs, she should wear a seat belt and shoulder strap (when available). The shoulder strap should cross the center of the chest and not chafe her neck. When properly placed it is comfortable and safe.
If you are a small adult and the shoulder strap chafes your neck, the Buckle Buddy is the ideal solution.

To Install the Buckle Buddy as a Shoulder Strap Adjuster:

The Buckle Buddy is designed to be used on either side of the car.

Slot A should face the factory-installed buckle with slot C at the top.

Step 1:
Place the lap and shoulder strap into both flanges of slot A near the factory installed seat belt buckle. They should pass smoothly through the slot, without bunching or folding.

Step 2:
Fasten the belts securely around the body, with the upper and lower back pressed firmly and comfortably against the seat back. Slide the Buckle Buddy toward the center of the body until the shoulder strap is positioned comfortably and properly across the center of the chest, as illustrated.

Step 3:
Hold the Buckle Buddy and straps in place and unfasten the seat belt buckle. While holding the Buckle Buddy and belts in place, slip both belts into slot B so there is no bunching.

Step 4:
Fold the shoulder strap up, in front of the Buckle Buddy, and slip it into slot C. Pull both the shoulder strap and lap belt snug.

The Buckle Buddy is now in place. Refasten the seat belt and make sure that it is positioned as intended in step 2 above. If not, just pull the shoulder strap out of the slot, readjust the Buckle Buddy to the safe and comfortable position and reinsert the shoulder strap into slot C.
To insure maximum safety when using the Buckle Buddy, the shoulder strap should be off the neck and cross the shoulder and chest fully; the lap belt must be snug and pushed low on the hips. (Do not over adjust the shoulder strap to a vertical position. This will reduce the intended safety features of the shoulder strap. The Buckle Buddy Must Be Low on the Hip and Not Positioned on the Child's Abdomen.)

To Install the Buckle Buddy as a locking clip:

Vehicle seat belts with factory installed buckles that slide freely along the webbing require a locking clip. Car and booster seats installed with a lap belt and shoulder strap should use a locking clip to hold them firmly in place.

1. Install the car or booster seat according to the instructions that came with the seat; belt it in.

2. Pull to remove all slack from the lap belt. Grasp the webbing and factory installed buckle to prevent it from sliding, then disconnect the factory installed buckle.

3. Thread the belt webbing through slot A and then slot B of the Buckle Buddy. The Buckle Buddy should rest within 1/2" of the factory installed buckle.

4. Buckle the seat belt and make sure the car seat is secure -- It Should Not Move From Side to Side. Once installed properly, the Buckle Buddy is designed to remain on the seat belt until the car or booster seat is repositioned.

NOTE:
The Buckle Buddy is designed to take full advantage of all benefits of a seat belt/shoulder strap restraint system when improper fit is otherwise inhibiting or dangerous. The Buckle Buddy is not a child restraint but an accessory to aid the comfort and proper fit of most restraint systems. Do Not Over Adjust the Buckle Buddy Across The Lap So The Shoulder Strap Is Vertical. This will reduce the intended safety effect of the shoulder strap. The Buckle Buddy has been tested by an independent laboratory and passes the tensile force requirement of U. S. Department of Transportation Regulation #209 and Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 213. Injuries in some accidents are unavoidable and due to many factors, regardless of the restraint system used. There are no guarantees, written or implied, that the proper use of the Buckle Buddy will eliminate all potential for injury in the event of an accident
